Aaaaaand another Halloween picture. I actually really like how this turned out. I got an awesome Pentel Pocketbrush for my birthday and have been loving it (and playing around with it). Did this with it.
The glint off the eyelid and eye is my favorite part. I knew it would add an even scarier element of humanity.

Okay, so, I love the holiday Halloween. It's my favorite holiday of the year (take that Christmas!). I, traditionally, have to watch at least 100 horror/scary/goofy movies in the month of October. My favorite Halloween movie of all-time is, in fact, Halloween.
Compared to horror films now, it's relatively tame. In fact, the first time I watched it I was like "that was it?" But it's amazing at building suspense. There's something about it that I just love. It was the grandfather of slasher films (of which I also love). It's really pure in that genre. No extra stupid things. Just a dude who stalks and kills people for no reason with no remorse. Now that's scary.

The B&W version of my Lord of the Rings Periodic Heroes post this week. Again, using Alphonse Mucha as an inspiration (this is two of four pieces I'll be doing like this).

Okay, let me clarify that I did NOT draw this. So, in case you were wondering how I got awesome overnight, it's because I didn't. This was drawn by the amazing Randy Green. I got a really cool pocket brush pen for my birthday and I wanted to ink something with it. It's been months and months since I've really inked anything, so it was fun to pull it out and practice.
Original Pencils:
Granted, his pencils are better than my inks. My bad - ha! Part of my problem is that I shrunk the picture down to ink it - so the little details became really teeny tiny. Also, I need to work on my feathering (which he rocks). So, yeah, it was fun practice (of which I will keep doing). That and it's a little cathartic too.

Sorry for the lack of posts, lately, but I've been working on the following pages for the majority of a week and a half now. They're from an X-Men script that Marvel sent me, and I sent them off to the editor today, so fingers crossed cause I busted my hump on these things. Hardest I've worked on pages, yet. I should be getting back to more regular posting of stuff now (as I take a breather before starting on my next set of pages).

This is the B&W for my Buffy piece on Periodic Heroes this week.
Inspired by Alphonse Mucha's Stone series, this is the first of 4 I'm doing in this style. It's been fun and challenging.

B&W Video Game post for PH. I actually did this while sitting at my table at Baltimore Comic Con the other week.

Here is the B&W for a Twilight piece I did for Periodic Heroes.

Now, I did this as three separate drawings (each done in a different technique) and then composited them together. It was a fun experiment. But, in order to do this, I really needed to make sure I knew what I was doing. I don't typically build a photo-mockup for my pics, but this was done during the previously mentioned "dark art time" and I needed a little guidance. I also needed to make sure I knew how it would all come together since I was drawing in so many pieces. So I cobbled this together first:

I didn't trace any of it, but just had it around to reference (more in some parts, less in others).

Decided to do some warmup sketches at the request of some of my followers on DeviantArt. This was the first one. I was trying to have his arms reaching back as he kicks forward, but in the end, I don't think it really worked. Ugh. This was done the other week during a very dark drawing period for me - ha! So try not to judge it too harshly...

Another digital painting attempt.

Also, I added some texture to the Laney piece from yesterday. Like it more that way.
